Discounts - vouchers vs pre-paid vs payment rules. What are the differences?

Introduction

reservie supports the following three types of a discount mechanism.

  1. Voucher - discount

  2. Voucher - prepaid

  3. Payment rules

Voucher - discount

The discount voucher enables you to assign a discount to an event of set of events via the assignment of a voucher code.

When creating a voucher code, you will be asked for a name for the voucher code and a discount value or percentage.

The name that you assign is important, since this forms the voucher code identifier that you should pass on to your clients.

Best for:

The discount voucher is best suited for general promotions (for example facebook, google ads) etc or perhaps to clients that you wish to reward.

Not suitable for:

Discount vouchers are not suitable for offering 100% discounts or free classes to clients. We suggest that you use prepaid vouchers in this scenario. Payment rules offer an alternative.

Voucher - prepaid

The prepaid voucher enables you to assign credit to a client.

When creating a pre-paid voucher you will be asked for details of the voucher value. This credit is assigned to a private voucher ID, which you can subsequently send to the customer.

Best for:

The discount voucher is best suited for offer credit to a client. The reasons for this can vary. However, common reasons include offering credits notes for unattended classes (as an alternative to a refund) or gift vouchers.

Not suitable for:

Prepaid vouchers are not suited for general promotions. We suggest that you use discount vouchers or payment rules.

Payment rules

Payment rules are special rules that can be setup and assigned to events. A payment rule activates to discount the price of an event if a client behaves in a specific way. The behaviour that can be detected is as follows:

  1. Number of spaces purchased - if a payment rule has been setup to detect the number of spaces purchased, then the resultant price will be reduced if the number of spaces match the rule.

  2. Number of dates purchased - if a payment rule has been setup to detect the number of dates purchased, then the resultant price will be reduced if the number of dates match the rule.

Best for:

Reducing the price of an event if you wish to offer a discount for purchasing either a block of dates or bring more than one person.

Not suitable for:

Offering free classes or providing a offer over a mix of events. Alternative, discount or pre-paid vouchers.
