FAQ

Here are some commonly asked questions regarding the video on demand service

What happens when I upload a video?

Upon uploading a video, it is added to a queue for processing. Videos are converted to HLS format at varying bit rates. This allows your customer’s browser to choose the bit rate that most appropriate based on their network conditions thereby reducing the possibility of buffering.

I have uploaded a video, it seems to be taking a very long time to convert. Is this normal?

Yes. The process of converting a video to its HLS equivalent is intensive on our servers. All videos enter a queue and are converted in turn. Further more we convert a file many times to varying bit rates and so convert a video into multiple versions of the video. Please be patient.

How will I know when a video has been converted to HLS?

We will email you to inform you when we start the process of conversion and when the process is complete. You can also check the state of the process by periodically refreshing the page.

What format should the video be?

We support most formats, but recommend .mov of mp4. In all circumstances we will convert the video to H.264 video compression, AAC audio and re-sample to varying bitrates.
